Welcome to the Garran Preschool Home Extended Learning Page. As there is no formal homework in preschool this page is for parents who wish to know more about the Early Years Learning Framework and access some age appropriate learning materials for their children.
Early Years Learning Framework
BELONGING
Experiencing belonging – knowing where and with whom you belong – is integral to human existence. Children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighbourhood and a wider community. Belonging acknowledges children’s interdependence with others and the basis of relationships in defining identities. In early childhood, and throughout life, relationships are crucial to a sense of belonging. Belonging is central to being and becoming in that it shapes who children are and who they can become.
BEING
Childhood is a time to be, to seek and make meaning of the world. Being recognises the significance of the here and now in children’s lives. It is about the present and them knowing themselves, building and maintaining relationships with others, engaging with life’s joys and complexities, and meeting challenges in everyday life. The early childhood years are not solely preparation for the future but also about the present.
BECOMING
Children’s identities, knowledge, understandings, capacities, skills and relationships change during childhood. They are shaped by many different events and circumstances. Becoming reflects this process of rapid and significant change that occurs in the early years as young children learn and grow. It emphasises learning to participate fully and actively in society.

Early Literacy
ABC Reading Eggs makes learning to read interesting and engaging for kids, with great online reading games and activities. Reading Eggs has a monthly fee.
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Daytime Emmy®-nominated and award-winning children’s literacy website, Storyline Online®, streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by a credentialed elementary educator, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners.
ABC Kids listen is a free dedicated kids app and digital radio station providing preschool-aged children and their families with a safe space to hear trusted, educational and entertaining audio programs that feature music and stories from their favourite ABC Kids friends. Available on iPhone, iPad and Android™ phones and tablets.
Early Numeracy
Created for kids in grades Pre-K through 8, Funbrain.com has been the leader in free educational games for kids since 1997. Funbrain offers hundreds of games, books, comics, and videos that develop skills in math, reading, problem-solving and literacy.
Follow the adventures of the Numbers and learn through animation, fun songs and games! Numberblocks can also be accessed on ABC iView and Netflix.
Wellbeing
Cosmic Kids Yoga was created to introduce the benefits of yoga and mindfulness while kids are having fun. They use stories, role-play and a good portion of silliness to make yoga and mindfulness fun for kids. Cosmic Kid's Yoga encourages children to move and stretch their bodies. It also teaches a focus on breathing, relaxation and visualisation.
Sleep Meditation Stories for Kids
This playlist includes Guided Sleep Meditations and bedtime Sleep Stories for kids with the specific aim to aid with sleep and relaxation. These soothing stories are perfect to help little people relax before bedtime. The playlist also available on Spotify.
